Sandwich Big 6

When we brought our Sandwich Big 6 home, she needed a lot of work.  Over the years, she had been painted with spray cans and even another layer from a paintbrush.  It took a lot of work to “un-restore” the engine and try to get back to what was left of the original paint.  The valves and head needed work and the governor collar was frozen on the crankshaft.  Her first show was at the 2006 Sandwich, Illinois show, which featured Sandwich engines.  Parts were even brought in a bucket and the fuel line still needed to be plumbed up.  I was able to get her to run for the first time in over 35 years at that show.  Today, she runs well and hits very hard.  She now has a correct handle and the final muffler parts are soon to be added to the engine.  After antiquing a new brass tag, it was stamped with the correct serial number and returned to the proper place.  I am still looking for the cast governor weight safety cover and water hopper opening cover, but hope to find a way to make copies soon.
